Abstract:Radionuclides intakes are one of the associated risks in their production practices, also handling of radiopharmaceuticals may have a risk. 68Ga it is proposed as an isotope to be used for diagnostic of neuroendocrine and prostate tumors, linked to different radiopharmaceuticals. The aim of this work is to develop a methodology to evaluated intakes when 68Ga is produced when a cyclotron is used. In a previous work, a methodology was developed to determine the monitoring type when 18F is produced that best describes the needs of the radiopharmaceutical production facility at the University of Costa Rica. In that work calibration and quality control procedures were created when an uptake probe is used. Due to the knowledge acquired from the facility, equipment and radioactive sources available a methodology is proposed when 68Ga is produced. Also, procedures for estimating the effective dose for the occupational workers exposed are defined considering different international references. Confirmatory monitoring programme is selected for the synthesis area, the QC and dispatching areas. Measurement geometries and calibration procedures were created. In addition, the procedure for estimating the committed effective dose was described. With the methodology established, assessment of effective dose due to the incorporation of 68Ga for occupational exposed workers from a cyclotron in a radiopharmaceutical production facility can be achieved in accordance with international guidelines and recommendations.
